New shield foiled attack on Internet's backbone (USA Today)
An attack in early February on key parts of the backbone of the Internet had little effect, thanks to new protection technology, according to a report released this week. The distributed denial-of-service attack on the Domain Name System proved the effectiveness of the Anycast load-balancing system.

Pharming is the name for methods computer hackers use to exploit known flaws in domain naming services (DNS). DNS is essentially the yellow pages for our computers, allowing the translation of www.NorwichBulletin.com , for example, to a specific computer on the Internet.
